Zomba Youths Join Pool Tournament Promoting Peaceful Elections

Youths in Zomba gathered at Chinamwali on Thursday to take part in a special pool tournament aimed at promoting peace ahead of 16 September elections.

The event was organized by the National Initiative for Civic Education (NICE) Trust in partnership with the Malawi Electoral commission (MEC) and it was held under the theme ‘Peaceful elections should start with me’.

Speaking at the event, NICE District Officer for Zomba, Kondwani Neba, said the organization’s goal is to provide civic education on important national matters such as elections.

He added that sports like pool offer a peaceful and engaging way to reach young people and help them understand the value of democracy.

Eastern Region Pool Chairperson, Moses Kambelesya, welcomed the idea, saying it was a creative approach to reach communities that are often left out in civic education campaigns.

The tournament brought together youth and political party representatives, all united in encouraging non-violent participation in the upcoming polls.
