Former Sri Lanka cricketer and Rajasthan Royals鈥 Director of Cricket Kumar Sangakkara has said that Yashasvi Jaiswal is someone who keeps pondering over his dismissals and that is a big reason for his sloppiness on field, adding that if India need to field right now, he would still be distracted by the mode of his dismissal.
Jaiswal started the Test series against England with a hundred at Leeds and followed it up with another imperious innings of 87 in the ongoing game at Edgbaston.
Jaiswal鈥檚 butter-fingered fielding at Headingley, thanks to which he dropped four catches, which played a major part in India鈥檚 loss, has been a major downside in his time in England despite his run-scoring.
Sangakkara has said that similar situations might be in store for India if Jaiswal doesn鈥檛 find a way to move on from his dismissals and focus on the situation at hand.
鈥淚 mean. If Jaiswal has to go out and field just now after having got out the way he did, so close to a 100, you are not getting anything from him on the field. He will just still be thinking about 鈥極h my god. I missed another 100. How many balls am I going to go and hit? When is my next batting? This pitch is flat. Will I get another batting turn?鈥 That鈥檚 how Jaiswal thinks,鈥 Sangakkara said while speaking to Sky Sports.
Although Sangakkara was critical of Jaiswal鈥檚 batting efforts, he didn鈥檛 forget to praise the youngster鈥檚 brilliant batting skills, which have been on display ever since his Test debut two years back, especially against England.
鈥淚 saw him 4 years ago when I joined the Rajasthan Royals. He was a young kid among two more, Anuj Rawat and Mahipal Lomror and I could immediately see the quality of the kid,鈥 Sangakkara said.
鈥淎nd he was a kid at the time; he still is very young, but he鈥檚 worked hard. He has a really defined method in his mind about how to play cricket in every format. And he鈥檚 got a hunger to succeed,鈥 Sangakkara added.
