Yellow Alert Issued Across Odisha Amid Intense Rain Forecast

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has sounded a yellow alert across 27 districts of Odisha, warning residents of potential thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and winds reaching speeds of 30 to 40 kmph.

The alert is in effect for today, with similar conditions expected tomorrow across the entire state.

An orange warning has also been issued for the northern districts of Balasore, Mayurbhanj, and Keonjhar, predicting extremely heavy rainfall. The remaining districts will continue under yellow alert, with rainfall intensity expected to increase significantly from June 25 onwards.

Weather officials indicate that a cyclonic circulation is forming over West Bengal and surrounding areas, likely influencing heavy downpour patterns across Odisha from June 24 to June 26. Coastal Odisha, in particular, may face wind speeds up to 55 kmph during this period.

The alert highlights the possibility of flash floods, disruptions in transportation, and waterlogging in low-lying areas. Citizens are advised to remain indoors during lightning and avoid travel unless necessary.

As Odisha braces for five more days of active monsoon conditions, the state鈥檚 disaster response teams have been placed on high alert to ensure public safety.
