Wishaw youth assaulted two other teenagers on day of his mum鈥檚 funeral

A youth assaulted two other teenagers on the day of his mum鈥檚 funeral. The unprovoked attacks happened after the victims left a gym in Wishaw. Brandon Black admitted that, while acting with a juvenile, he assaulted two 17-year-olds in Main Street on April 29 last year. His lawyer, Stephen MacBride, told Hamilton Sheriff Court: 鈥淗e got involved in this on the way home after his mum鈥檚 funeral. 鈥淭his is the last way his mum would have wanted him to behave on that day.鈥 Black, who was also 17 at the time, has no previous convictions. Scott O鈥機onnor, prosecuting, said the assaults happened around 9pm. The victims had left a gym and were walking on Main Street when they saw three males, including Black, whom they didn鈥檛 know. Someone shouted 鈥楬ey you!鈥 and Black, who was 鈥渁cting aggressively鈥, confronted the two friends. They were punched and kicked, although one managed to throw Black to the ground at one point. One of the victims had a cut over his eye while the other sustained bruising. The assaults were captured on CCTV. Sentence on Black, now 18, of Rannoch Drive, Wishaw, was deferred until next month for background reports. *Don’t miss the latest headlines from around Lanarkshire. Sign up to our newsletters here .
