The Congress party on Friday clarified its position on the chief ministerial face of the Mahagathbandhan alliance ahead of the Bihar assembly election. Congress leader Kanhaiya Kumar said that Lalu Prasad Yadav-led Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) will lead the alliance in Bihar, adding that there is no confusion or internal dispute within the alliance over the leadership. Speaking to PTI, Kanhaiya Kumar said that the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) will lead the alliance in Bihar, and the chief minister will also be from Lalu Yadav-led RJD if Mahagathbandhan secures victory in the Bihar assembly elections. “The chief minister will be from the RJD if the Mahagathbandhan gets a majority in the Bihar Assembly polls, “Kanhaiya Kumar was quoted as saying by news agency PTI. He added that Tejashwi Yadav remains the unanimous choice and the main face for the CM post. “No confusion or dispute in Mahagathbandhan on Tejashwi Yadav being main face for CM post,” Kanhaiya Kumar said. “It is true that the RJD is the bigger party, has the more MLAs, it provides leadership to the ‘Mahagathbandhan’, they have the post of leader of the opposition. Naturally, it is their responsibility. “But all the constituent parties, now Mukesh Sahani of the Vikassheel Insaan Party is also part of the ‘Mahagathbandhan’. Everyone has their own role,” said Kumar. Further, Kanhaiya Kumar claimed that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will bring its own face in Bihar whenever it gets a chance to remove Nitish Kumar. Kanhaiya’s statement comes a day after Jan Suraaj founder accused Congress of surviving solely on the goodwill of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav. Slamming the Grand Old Party for its diminishing relevance in Bihar politics, Prashant Kishor said that Congress has been 鈥渞iding Lalu Yadav鈥檚 coattails for the last 25-30 years.鈥 When asked to estimate how many votes Congress might secure in the state, Kishor quipped, 鈥淛itna Lalu ji bheek mein denge (As many as Lalu gives in charity).鈥 “Congress has no stand in Bihar. If Rahul Gandhi has political guts, he should contest the elections in Bihar on his own. Or he should ask for an equal number of seats from Lalu Yadav,” Prashant Kishor said. Assembly elections are due in Bihar later this year, however, no official dates have been announced by the Election Commission of India (ECI).
