After years of speculation, Marvel Studios has finally raised the curtain on one of its most powerful villains, Mephisto. He entered the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the final episode of Disney+鈥檚 miniseries Ironheart. The show premiered on June 24. Sacha Baron Cohen has been roped in to play the sinister role. While Mephisto receives limited screen time on the show, he has been quickly established as a terrifyingly powerful threat.

Who is Mephisto?
Mephisto is unlike any other Marvel villain. His origin story is somewhat murky, with one version suggesting he was nothing but a maggot-laying fly that witnessed the fall of a Celestial being four billion years ago. Another account suggests that Mephisto emerged as the twisted byproduct of the cosmic being Nemesis, whose remains turned out to be the Infinity Stones.
He draws his immense powers from the souls he collects, especially those who are corrupted. Like in Ironheart, Mephisto takes Parker Robbins, also known as The Hood鈥檚 soul, in exchange for power through an enchanted look, which made him invisible and bend bullets. This villain is an immortal master manipulator, can bend reality and has the power over life and death.
He also has a long history of toying with the biggest superheroes in the MCU, including Spider-Man. Mephisto saved the latter鈥檚 dying Aunt May in exchange for Peter Parker鈥檚 marriage to Mary Jane Watson. He also created the first Ghost Rider and made the deal that turned Johnny Blaze into the Spirit of Vengeance. He even tormented Scarlet Witch and was also partly responsible for Victor Von Doom鈥檚 fall because Mephisto trapped his mother鈥檚 soul in hell.
While most thought Thanos was the most powerful of all the villains, as he wiped out half of humanity, Mephisto is above him because he doesn鈥檛 need to rely on external powers like the Infinity Stones. He can manipulate reality and souls.
What鈥檚 next for Mephisto in the MCU?
In Ironheart, we see that Mephisto has The Hood鈥檚 soul, and he has struck a deal with Riri Williams, aka Ironheart. First, another season of the show could explore the deal between the two. But as Ironheart has been marketed as a limited series, only time will tell if fans will get another series. Riri鈥檚 story may continue in the Young Avengers series, and Mephisto鈥檚 appearance could be expected there.
He might also appear in Doctor Strange 3, according to ScreenRant, as the sorcerer faced Dormammu first, so encountering another supernatural villain is not out of the ordinary. Mephisto could also be the big bad uniting characters like Ghost Rider, Blade, Morbius, and Werewolf by Night. Maybe the demonic villain might make an appearance in the MCU鈥檚 Avengers: Doomsday.
