Three individuals, including a Trinamool Congress functionary, have been arrested for allegedly gang-raping a law student inside the campus of South Calcutta Law College in Kasba, South Kolkata.
Monojit Mishra, 31, a former student and current Organising Secretary of the South Kolkata district of the Trinamool Congress Chhatra Parishad (TMCP), was produced before the Alipore court on Friday, along with the other two accused, and was sent to police custody till July 1.
The incident occurred on June 25 between 7:30 pm and 8:50 pm and a complaint was lodged on Thursday night, following which the Kasba police arrested three individuals in connection with the case.
Besides Mishra, the other two accused have been identified as Zaib Ahmed (19) and Pramit Mukhopadhyay (20), both third-semester students at the same institution.
According to police sources, the 24-year-old woman reached the college around noon on Wednesday to complete formalities related to her examinations.
As per her complaint, she first waited inside the college union room. Subsequently, the main accused allegedly ordered the campus gate to be locked, after which the woman was reportedly raped inside the security guard鈥檚 room on the premises.
Who Is Manojit Mishra?
Manojit Mishra graduated from South Calcutta Law College in 2022. Even after passing out of the institute, he reportedly maintained considerable influence on campus.
After graduation, he began practising at Alipore Law College.
During his student years, Mishra was known for his strong-arm tactics and had been linked to multiple incidents of assault.

As per the TMCP鈥檚 official Facebook page, he currently holds the position of Organising Secretary for the South Kolkata district unit of the organisation.
