Marvel Studios and Disney鈥檚 Thunderbolts has finally been released on OTT platforms, and we are sure that viewers and Marvel fans couldn鈥檛 be any happier. The latest in the Marvel Universe, Thunderbolts, dropped on multiple OTT platforms on Tuesday, July 1.
The film, starring Sebastian Stan reprising his role as Bucky Barnes, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Wyatt Russell as John Walker, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, and Lewis Pullman as the formidable Sentry, was released on May 2, 2025.
The movie is now available to movie buffs for purchase and rental on Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, and Fandango at Home, as per a report in USA Today.
Thunderbolts, which has managed to secure the eighth position in the chart of 2025鈥檚 highest grossers, has reportedly underperformed compared to expectations before its release. With a budget as big as $180 million, it could only manage to mint about $381 million at the box office.
According to the official synopsis, 鈥淭he film follows a group of anti-heroes who find themselves caught in a perilous mission orchestrated by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, played by Julia Louis-Dreyfus. The team must navigate treacherous personal histories while attempting to survive a deadly trap and determine whether redemption or ruin lies ahead.鈥
The film was originally titled Thunderbolts but was later renamed The New Avengers in select markets. This latest Marvel Cinematic Universe entry unites lesser-known yet fan-favourite characters.
The superhero film, inspired by Marvel Comics, centres on the Thunderbolts team. Produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, it is directed by Jake Schreier, known for Paper Towns and Robot & Frank. The screenplay is written by Black Widow writer Eric Pearson.
The post-credits clearly draw a connection between Thunderbolts, July鈥檚 Fantastic Four film, and 2026鈥檚 Avengers: Doomsday. Earlier in March, Marvel Studios already announced that the lead cast members of each film will join Doomsday, including the likes of superheroes from the X-Men trilogy and other Avengers favourites. For now, fans will have to wait for Fantastic Four: First Steps to see how and why the events unfold in the future.
