Indian Railways has announced a rationalisation of basic passenger train fares, which will come into effect from July 1, 2025. The new fare structure is designed to ensure financial sustainability while keeping travel affordable, especially for short-distance passengers.So, what exactly is changing in your train ticket from next month? Here’s a clear and simple breakdown:Who is affected by the new railway fare hike?The new fare applies mainly to:Ordinary Passenger Trains (Non-AC, Non-suburban)Mail/Express TrainsPremium Trains like Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Vande Bharat, Duronto, Tejas, etc.Suburban trains and season ticket holders will see no change in fares.No change in fares for trips up to 500 KmIf you’re travelling 500 km or less, there is no fare increase in second class ordinary coaches.
