Indian astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla has said he is learning to eat and walk in space like a baby and that the ride has been “amazing”. Inside the Dragon spacecraft and en route to the International Space Station (ISS). Holding a white swan toy, Shukla explained how it reflects ‘wisdom’ in Indian culture, something that motivated him all this time. The Indian Air Force Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla, currently aboard Axiom Mission 4 (Ax-4) to ISS. “Namaskar from Space! I am thrilled to be here with my fellow astronauts – one veteran and three rookies. What a ride it was! I wanted to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has been a part of this…” he said. “I understand that this is not a personal accomplishment, it is a collective achievement of each one of you who has been a part of the journey and to make this possible. Also, to family and friends… your support mattered so much…” “Since yesterday, I’ve been told that I’m sleeping a lot… I think that’s a great sign and that I’m adjusting quite well… I’m learning like a baby,” Shukla said. The Indian Air Force officer has taken a white soft toy swan named ‘Joy’ to the ISS. He said the swan is a symbol of wisdom in Indian culture. “I will try to capture my experience through pictures and videos so that I can share it with you after returning. I want you to experience the journey through me,” he further added. The takeoff took place on Wednesday at 12:01 pm from NASA’s Kennedy Space Centre in Florida, after six delays. The Dragon spacecraft will complete docking at 4:30 pm on Thursday. Speaking on her son’s achievement, Shubhanshu Shukla’s mother said, “Today I am feeling very good because we are now being recognised by our son. Although a child is usually identified by their parents, today we are recognised by our son. We are so proud of this fact… I thank everyone who gives us their best wishes…”
