Violent Prestwick sex predator who repeatedly preyed on young girls is jailed

A violent sex predator who repeatedly preyed on two young girls has been jailed for 12 years. Hugh Brown was today handed the lengthy prison term as a judge praised both victims for speaking out about their horrific ordeals. The 54 year-old was today sentenced at the High Court in Glasgow. Brown had earlier been convicted of a total of 13 charges with the attacks occurring in Ayr, South Ayrshire between 1993 and 2004. The serial abuse included the rape of one and the attempted rape of the other. Judge John McCormick ordered Brown, of Prestwick, also South Ayrshire, to be supervised for a further three years on his release. The crimes against the rape victim saw her once being restrained on a bed. She also witnessed the other girl being preyed upon. Brown further abused the second youngster while she was asleep. Jurors were told how he was physically violent with her which included the terrified girl being hit on the head and choked. Patricia Baillie, defending, today said: “While he respects the verdict of the jury, he continues to deny the offending. “He has no explanation as to why these allegations were made.” Judge McCormick put Brown on the sex offenders list and banned him from approaching or contacting the victims. These were both for an indefinite period. He told Brown what he had done was “devastating and life changing”. The judge added: “They had the courage to come forward and give their evidence which, by their unanimous verdicts, the jury found them credible and reliable.”
