Amazon Prime viewers are on the clock to binge-watch “one of the greatest shows ever” as The Originals is set to depart from the platform in just a few weeks, despite being dubbed a “masterpiece” by its fans. The show, which debuted on The CW in 2013, is a spin-off from the much-loved The Vampire Diaries, which followed the narrative beyond the love triangle involving Nina Dobrev’s Elena Gilbert and the vampire brothers Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder). Set in the aftermath of The Vampire Diaries’ fourth and fifth seasons, The Originals centres on Klaus Mikaelson, a vampire-werewolf hybrid, as he navigates the supernatural power dynamics of New Orleans with his family. Featuring Joseph Morgan as Klaus, Daniel Gillies as Elijah, and Claire Holt as Rebekah – the original vampires – the series delves into their battles with other vampires, werewolves, witches, and various adversaries. Matching the high bar set by The Vampire Diaries, The Originals has garnered acclaim from its audience right up to its emotional finale in 2018, which saw the demise of two beloved characters, leaving many fans in tears, reports Surrey Live . The show earned multiple Teen Choice and People’s Choice Awards nominations, with Joseph Morgan bagging the favourite actor in a new TV series accolade in 2014. A fan expressed their attachment to the series, saying: “Just recently I re-watched TVD and finally decided to go ahead with The Originals and oh boy.. I simply simply loved this show! Loved the entire cast! I don’t remember crying so much as I did for this towards the end.” Another viewer was moved to write their first ever review, stating: “I’m not one to write reviews on anything I watch, in fact this is the first time I’m writing but mann, for what I believe is, one of the BEST shows ever, I feel obliged to write down how amazing it is, to make its existence known to people.” “I have never ever given any review for any show but I had to give for this one. One of the best shows I have ever watched. It’s an emotional rollercoaster ride and you will love this show,” declared another. A fourth fan expressed their opinion firmly: “The Originals still remains the greatest show I have ever watched.” Another comment read: “Best American TV show ever…usually American shows failed to portray the emotion with required amount of intensity…BUT this is a MASTERPIECE.” Regarding the series finale’s deaths, showrunner Julie Plec disclosed: “We had some other pretty devastating deaths over the course of the season and that, specifically to this season, was born out of our villain, which was a villain rooted in an ideology and intolerance and hate. “And we felt, as writers, to make the biggest statement about how devastating the consequences of that can of ideology can be, we really needed to have some shocking and deeply emotional victims of that enemy.” The Originals is available to watch on Amazon Prime Video
