Ukrainian Drone Attack on Russia Shuts Down Airport and Bridge for Hours

Moscow, June 27 (QNA) – Ukraine launched a large-scale drone attack targeting several regions inside Russia, resulting in temporary disruptions to traffic over a bridge on Don River in the city of Volgograd and a brief suspension of flights.

Governor of the Volgograd Region, Andrei Bocharov, confirmed that traffic over the bridge was temporarily halted due to the attack, adding that no injuries were reported.

Russia鈥檚 civil aviation authority announced that Volgograd Airport was closed for over three hours before resuming operations earlier this morning.

In a related statement, the Russian Ministry of Defense said that air defense systems shot down 39 Ukrainian drones overnight – 13 over Volgograd and the rest over other Russian territories and Crimea.

Russia and Ukraine held direct talks in Istanbul on May 16 and June 2, which led to several prisoner exchanges and the repatriation of fallen soldiers鈥 bodies, but no progress was made toward a ceasefire.

Since Feb. 24, 2022, Russia has been conducting what it calls a 鈥渟pecial military operation鈥 in Ukraine, which it insists will continue unless Kyiv abandons its ambitions to join Western military alliances – something Ukraine considers a violation of its sovereignty. (QNA)
