UK tourists in one Spain holiday hotspot have been warned over taking necessary precautions as a heatwave hits the island. Yesterday, an amber alert was put in place in Majorca until around 8pm, with one weather expert explaining how such hot weather could be damaging to individuals and even their properties. Jason Nicholls, lead international forecaster at ACCUWeather, said temperatures as high as 39C could cause serious problems, especially for those who are classed as vulnerable or are in exposed areas. While temperatures today (June 26), are expected to fall throughout the day, it is believed they will shoot up again as the travellers welcome to the weekend in. Mr Nicholls emphasised the importance of completing one major action to prevent feeling under the weather during the heatwave, stressing that you should be drinking as much water as is necessary to stay hydrated. He told the Express : 鈥淭hursday and Friday highs will be around 32C or 33C, then can be around 35C from Saturday through Monday. “The heat will wane around Tuesday or Wednesday of next week. The best thing in the heat is to drink plenty of water and avoid strenuous activity during the peak heating of the day, if possible.鈥 Spain is known not to be the only country suffering from the impacts of a heatwave, as some local residents in Chios, Greece have been victim to high temperatures linked to wild fires. A state of emergency was declared on the island after huge flames engulfing areas of the island were reported, with some residents evacuated. Other areas of Europe which have also found themselves with blistering temperatures include Portugal, which saw its highest recorded temperature so far this year at 40.5C recorded. And even in Britain we have had our own fair share of heatwaves recently, with another forecast towards the end of this month.
