Trump Creeps Everyone Out By Complimenting Female Reporter In Awkward Clip

US President Donald Trump has given social media users the ick after he showered a female reporter with praise in a viral video.

The bizarre moment happened during a peace signing ceremony between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda facilitated by the US at the White House on Friday, which was meant to end decades of conflict in eastern Congo.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt invited Angolan reporter Hariana Verás, a native of Africa who covers the White House, to attend the ceremony alongside many others, including Democratic Republic of the Congo Foreign Minister Thérèse Kayikwamba Wagner, Rwandan Foreign Minister Olivier Nduhungirehe and US Vice President JD Vance.

During the ceremony, Trump appeared to get friendly with Verás despite revealing that he had apparently been advised by Leavitt not to comment on the reporter’s appearance.

“Karoline said this, number one, that I shouldn’t say this because it’s politically incorrect,” Trump told Verás before calling her “beautiful.”

Declaring that “I’m not allowed to say that,” the POTUS then joked, “You know that could be the end of my political career.”

Trump added to Verás: “But you are beautiful—and you’re beautiful inside. I wish I had more reporters like you.”

Verás beamed over the compliment while attendees in the room laughed over Trump’s praise for the journalist.

Over on Reddit, users had a lot to say about Trump’s interaction with the reporter.

“It’s giving embarrassing grandpa talking to a server at Applebee’s,” one person wrote.

Another alleged, “This is the only value he attributes to women. Beautiful or not beautiful. Women have no other worth to him whatsoever.”

Someone else argued that “we don’t always have to say what we think,” adding, “Sometimes it’s best if things just stay thoughts and never become words. That’s called ‘manners.’”

A separate user called out Vance’s behaviour in the clip, writing, “Vance in the back acting like this is normal and adorable.”

Meanwhile on X, formerly Twitter, more social media users shared their thoughts on the awkward clip.

“Trump’s objectification of women, even in professional settings, exemplifies his ongoing disregard for gender equality and respect, perpetuating a toxic culture that undermines women’s roles and contributions,” someone said.

Another person questioned, “When in the world has it been gross to recognise beauty?”

Someone else added, “She actually does look very nice I like her outfit but what an odd thing to say.”
