US President Donald Trump expressed his shock that Israel is proceeding with a trial against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, calling for the immediate cancellation of the proceedings.
Trump took to his “Truth Social” platform, writing: “BREAKING NEWS… I am shocked to hear that Israel, which just experienced one of its greatest moments in history, and which is strongly led by Bibi Netanyahu, is continuing its ridiculous campaign against its Prime Minister in this time of great war!”
Trump further added: “Bibi and I went through hell together, fighting an ancient, stubborn, and smart enemy of Israel and Iran. Bibi was never better, sharper, or stronger in his love for the magnificent Holy Land. Anyone else would have suffered losses, embarrassment, and chaos! Bibi Netanyahu was a warrior, perhaps unlike any other warrior in Israel’s history, and the result was something no one imagined, the complete elimination of one of the world’s largest and most powerful nuclear weapons, which would have happened soon!”
Trump further elaborated on his criticism of the ongoing legal proceedings against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
“We were literally fighting for the survival of Israel, and no one in Israel’s history has fought more strongly or more effectively than Bibi Netanyahu,” Trump continued. “Despite all of this, I just learned that Bibi has been called to court on Monday to continue this long-running case (he’s been going through this horrific ordeal since May 2020 – which is unprecedented!).”
US President highlighted that this marks the first time an Israeli Prime Minister has been tried while in office, characterizing the case as politically motivated. He described the charges as involving “cigars, a Bugs Bunny doll, and many other unfair accusations” aimed at causing significant harm to Netanyahu.
Trump concluded: “Such a prosecution, for a man who has given so much, is inconceivable to me. He deserves much better than this, and so does Israel. Bibi Netanyahu’s trial must be canceled immediately, or a pardon granted to a great hero who has done so much for Israel.”
Netanyahu is currently facing a criminal trial in Israel, centered on accusations across three distinct cases.
Essentially, the charges involve improperly accepting valuable gifts from wealthy individuals in exchange for political advantages and Attempting to manipulate media coverage through a deal with a newspaper publisher.
The most serious count, bribery, which alleges he granted significant regulatory benefits to a telecommunications firm in return for favorable reporting from an associated news website.
Netanyahu staunchly refutes these allegations, asserting they are a politically driven effort to remove him from office. This legal proceeding marks a historic first for an acting Israeli prime minister.
