Tributes are pouring in for a Kerry teenager who died in a horse-riding accident at her own home. Isabelle O’Callaghan has been remembered as a “wonderful girl” who was “never without a smile.”
Seventeen-year-old Isabelle, who was known as Izzy, was critically injured during a riding session at the family home in Rockfield, just outside Killarney, yesterday evening.
The incident occurred at around 5 pm, and emergency services were alerted to the scene. The teenager was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
Isabelle’s body was removed to hospital where a post-mortem examination will take place. The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) has launched an investigation.
CorkBeo reports that Isabelle was from a well-known and well-respected business family from Killarney. She is survived by her heartbroken parents, Eamon and Deirdre, her brother James, her grandparents Sean, Monica and Jimmy, her aunts and uncles, cousins, relatives, neighbours and many friends.
Announcing her funeral details, her family described her as a “cherished and beloved daughter” and “adored sister.” Her requiem mass will take place at St. Mary’s Cathedral on Monday morning at 12 noon. Burial afterwards in Aghadoe Lawn Cemetery.
Cllr Niall Kelleher from the Killarney Municipal District paid tribute and shared his condolences following the sad incident. He said: 鈥淭his is a tragic accident in which a young person has lost their life. The O鈥機allaghan family are quite well known in the Killarney area, and my thoughts are with them at this difficult time.鈥
A teacher of the young woman posted on RIP.ie: “My heartfelt sympathy to Izzy’s family on the tragic and untimely passing of beautiful Izzy. Words seem inadequate to express the sorrow felt by the loss of such a wonderful girl, who was never without a smile.
“It was a privilege to have taught Izzy and witness her kind, bright spirit and her deep love for the sport.Izzy is a much loved and cherished member of the Kingdom Pony Club, her loss has touched us all deeply and she will be so dearly missed. Suaimhneas s铆olra铆 d谩 hanam dh铆lis.”
Another who knew her from Pony Club added: “We are so incredibly sorry for your loss and can only say that Izzy was a fantastic young woman full of smiles and laughter. She was a fantastic friend to all of us at pony club. My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this unbelievably difficult time. Beautiful girl rest in peace.”
