Train derails causing travel chaos and major delays at major London station

Rail users are being warned of severe delays in London after a train derailed.

A train derailed in the Milton Keynes Central area and has forced the closure of some lines, according to National Rail. London Euston Station has been severely impacted with many passengers facing delays and cancellations.

Services running through the station are being delayed by up to 90 minutes as major disruption is expected until the end of the day.

According to National Rail, the disruption out of London Euston is being caused by a “low speed derailment of a non-passenger train between Watford Junction and Milton Keynes”.

No passengers were on board at the time, and no injuries have been reported.

National Rail has advised passengers travelling today to check their journey using their real-time Journey Planner.

In a post on X, Euston Station has warned of disruption to journeys today. In a statement, they said:

“For safety reasons, all lines between Milton Keynes and Bletchley were temporarily closed and we have worked quickly to reopen two of the four tracks on the West Coast Main Line. Although some trains are running again, we expect this incident to cause significant disruption to journeys today and we are working to recover the timetables as quickly as possible.

“We are very sorry to passengers whose journeys are affected and urge people to check before they travel at http://nationalrail.co.uk.”

Avanti West Coast tickets will also be valid on East Midlands Railway services between London St Pancras and Sheffield/Derby, as well as between Sheffield and Manchester Piccadilly/Liverpool Lime Street.

Another ticket acceptance deal means affected passengers can board LNER services between London Kings Cross and Edinburgh.

Passengers affected can use their tickets on Chiltern Railway services between London Marylebone and Birmingham Moor Street, and Cross Country services between Reading and Edinburgh.
