Supreme Court administration writes to Centre, seeks vacating of designated official residence of CJI currently occupied by ex-CJI Chandrachud

In an unprecedented move, the Supreme Court administration has written to the Centre for vacating the official residence of the Chief Justice of India (CJI) at Krishna Menon Marg in New Delhi, noting that the current occupant ex-CJI DY Chandrachud has stayed beyond the permissible period. In a communication on July 1 to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), the Supreme Court administration said the designated residence for the sitting Chief Justice of India — Bungalow No. 5 on Krishna Menon Marg — be vacated and returned to the court’s housing pool, sources said.

U.K. Royal Air Force team lands in Kerala to repair grounded F-35B

After weeks-long speculation and uncertainty, the Royal Air Force aircraft carrying an expert team of engineers from the U.K. touched down at the Thiruvananthapuram International Airport at 12.46 p.m. to repair the grounded F-35B of the Royal Air Force in Thiruvananthapuram. The combat jet of the U.K. remained grounded at the airport since June 14 after it made an emergency landing following technical glitches. According to sources, the team comprises around 17 engineers from the U.K. and the U.S. where the manufacturer Lockheed Martin is based.

With prominent businessman Gopal Khemka being shot dead outside his residence in Patna, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi lashed out at the Nitish Kumar government and said the incident has once again proven that the BJP and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar have together made Bihar the “crime capital of India”. The prominent businessman, Khemka was murdered on Friday night in the State capital Patna soon after he reached outside his house at around 11:30 p.m., which falls under the jurisdiction of Gandhi Maidan police station. He was shot by a bike-borne criminal from point blank range.

Hizbul supremo among 11 chargesheeted in cross-border narco-terror case by J&K State Investigation Agency

The Jammu and Kashmir State Investigation Agency (SIA) has filed a chargesheet against 11 accused, including Pakistan-based Hizbul Mujahideen supremo Syed Mohammad Yusuf Shah alias Syed Salahuddin, in connection with a narco-terror case in Jammu, an official said. The case was initially lodged by the SIA, Jammu in 2022 and a probe uncovered a well-organised network of terrorist associates and couriers aiding the proscribed outfit by facilitating smuggling of narcotics and raising funds for terror activities, a spokesperson of the agency said.
