Blue Bloods legend Donnie Wahlberg has hinted that the family’s head honcho, Frank Reagan, might make an appearance in the upcoming Boston Blue. The beloved family police drama Blue Bloods enjoyed a staggering 14 seasons on CBS before viewers were devastated to hear of its cancellation. After wrapping up Season 14 in December 2024, it wasn’t long before the spin-off Boston Blue was announced. Bidding farewell to New York, Danny Reagan (portrayed by Donnie Wahlberg) is set to relocate to Boston for a fresh start away from his family and join the local police force. Audiences are eager to see if the spin-off will herald the comeback of some of Blue Bloods’ most popular characters, including Magnum PI’s Tom Selleck as Danny’s father, Frank Reagan. While the 80-year-old Selleck hasn’t been officially confirmed for Boston Blue, Wahlberg has dropped hints that a reunion might be in the cards. Speaking with Parade, Wahlberg teased: “New York and Boston are really close. They’re not that far apart.” This suggests that Selleck, along with other relatives like Jamie (Will Estes), Erin (Bridget Moynahan), and Harry Reagan (Len Cariou), could potentially pop up in Boston Blue’s debut season. Selleck has openly shared his disappointment over Blue Bloods being axed and his desire for the show’s revival. In discussions with Entertainment Weekly, Selleck remarked that Frank would remain “commissioner till he drops”, echoing his sentiments to CBS News: “We’re the third-highest scripted show in all of broadcast. “We’re winning the night. All the cast wants to come back. “And I can tell you this: We aren’t sliding off down a cliff. “We’re doing good shows, and still holding our place. So, I don’t know.” Blue Bloods is available to watch on CBS.
