One person died, while many others were injured after an overhead tin shed collapsed at the Bageshwar Dham in Madhya Pradesh’s Chhatarpur.
The incident happened earlier on Thursday near the Darbar Hall, where preparations were underway for the birthday celebrations of spiritual figure Dhirendra Shastri, popularly known as ‘Baba Bageshwar’, on July 4, multiple media reports said.
The tin shed collapsed due to strong winds and rain, it was believed. The deceased was identified as 50-year-old Shyam Lal Kaushal, a native of Uttar Pradesh.
ETV Bharat quoted eyewitnesses as saying that some people had gathered under the tin shed after a sudden spell of rain and thunderstorms in the city on Thursday morning.
A portion of the shed collapsed, leading to injuries to many who had gathered.
Subsequently, they were rushed to a hospital, while one died on the spot after being hit by an iron angle, the report claimed.
The deceased’s son-in-law told the publication that the incident happened at nearly 7.30 am when it started to rain.
In a separate incident, a migrant worker from Bihar and his two daughters were killed when the ceiling of a room in their house collapsed in Punjab’s Hoshiarpur on Thursday.
An official confirmed to news agency PTI that the ceiling of a room in the house collapsed in the morning, killing Shankar and his two daughters, Shivani (13) and Pooja (5).
Priyanka and the couple’s two other daughters, Sunita (6) and Preeti (8), were injured in the incident and rushed to different hospitals in Tanda.
According to a preliminary investigation, the house was old. It had a wooden roof layered with mud, which collapsed due to rain.
