Tickets are now available for the 23rd edition of Alteatre, Altea鈥檚 longstanding showcase of national amateur theatre. The announcement was made by Pepa V. P茅rez, councillor for culture, and Joan Carratal脿, president of the local theatre group Pla i Rev茅s, which organises the festival in collaboration with the town council.
This year鈥檚 programme includes five productions: four plays selected from more than one hundred submissions, and a final performance by Pla i Rev茅s to close the festival. Two of the selected works are in Valencian and two in Spanish, with comedy as the common thread running through all the pieces.
鈥淎lteatre is a joint initiative between the culture department and Pla i Rev茅s, and it鈥檚 time to unveil the five plays that will take to the stage: four selected companies and the host group鈥檚 own production,鈥 said P茅rez. She also confirmed that tickets are already on sale via the website www.alteacultural.com/alteatre, and can also be purchased at the venue鈥檚 box office from one hour before each performance.
Individual tickets are priced at 鈧8 at the box office, or 鈧6 when purchased online. A full festival pass for all five performances is available for 鈧25 in person or 鈧20 online.
P茅rez thanked Pla i Rev茅s for their continued effort in curating the festival. 鈥淓very year we receive more submissions, and narrowing them down is no easy task. The group deserves credit for the demanding work they do behind the scenes.鈥
Carratal脿 echoed the appreciation, thanking the local council for its ongoing support. 鈥淚n recent years we鈥檝e regularly exceeded 100 submissions. It鈥檚 a time-consuming and challenging process,鈥 he said. 鈥淯nfortunately, we can only select four or five plays each year, depending on how many Saturdays fall in July. Since this is a national event, we receive proposals from groups across the country.鈥
The programme for Alteatre 2025 is as follows:
Saturday 5 July 鈥 L鈥櫭簂tima de Tx茅khov by Garum Teatre (in Valencian)
Saturday 12 July 鈥 Totus Plantus by La Tarumba (in Valencian)
Saturday 19 July 鈥 Un malentendido by G猫nesi Teatre (in Spanish)
Saturday 26 July 鈥 Capullo, quiero un hijo tuyo by Cin茅tica Asociaci贸n (in Spanish)
Saturday 2 August 鈥 Tanqueu a l鈥檈ixir by Pla i Rev茅s (in Valencian), closing the festival
All performances begin at 9:00 pm at the open-air auditorium in Pla莽a de l鈥橝igua. As Carratal脿 noted, while the five plays differ in language and style, they all share a humorous tone and offer thoughtful social commentary.
Both the organisers and the town鈥檚 cultural department encourage residents and visitors alike to enjoy a summer of theatre in Altea.
