All the cost of living vouchers and help families could claim this summer have been revealed. The Department for Work and Pensions ( DWP ) and Labour Party government have extended the Household Support Fund. The 拢742-million fund is distributed among councils across England, with each council given the freedom to decide how to use the money. But it isn’t the only help UK households can get, either. In Birmingham , local residents and households can apply for payments of up to 拢200 this month, intended to help with energy, grocery and water costs, the city council has confirmed in a major boost. Liverpool City Council says: “The Household Support Fund is a government fund that offers eligible households support with fuel, food and other essentials. The latest phase of the Household Support Fund covers the period from 1st April 2025 to 31st March 2026. Liverpool鈥檚 allocation for this year is 拢10.6m.” And Ribble Valley has 拢500 payments for households too. Social tariffs are special low-cost broadband deals offered to customers receiving benefits such as Universal Credit and Pension Credit (Guaranteed Credit). Our research has shown that moving to a social tariff could save the average customer 拢250 a year if they’re eligible. Lots of customers who could benefit from moving to a social tariff aren’t aware they’re available. Social tariffs are special discounted deals available for certain low-income customers. They’re generally cheaper than typical broadband tariffs, starting at just 拢12.50 per month. They also usually aren’t subject to price rises or exit fees. Social tariffs are designed to act as a safety net for households that may otherwise struggle to afford broadband services. Research by the telecoms regulator, Ofcom, has shown that an estimated 4.2 million households in the UK are eligible. Child Benefit from HMRC is worth up to 拢1,354 a year for your first child and up to 拢897 for each additional child. In the Spring Statement, Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rachel Reeves announced a new service as part of the government鈥檚 Plan for Change, that will cut red tape for eligible employed parents who are liable to the High Income Child Benefit Charge. From the summer, families will have the option to report their Child Benefit payments and pay the charge directly through their PAYE tax code instead of filing a Self Assessment tax return. The new digital service will be optional and those who choose to pay the charge through their Self Assessment can continue to do so. Children’s charity Buttle UK offers grants worth up to 拢2,000, with support packages including money for essential items and help for children’s emotional, social and educational needs. The Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme offer varies by council but families who receive free school meals are usually eligible. In some areas you can get holiday club places for the equivalent of at least four hours a day. You should contact your local authority to see what’s available, whether you’re eligible and how to apply. Free kids clubs, specifically breakfast clubs, can save families up to 拢450 per year on childcare costs. This is due to the government initiative to offer free, before-school clubs in primary schools. These clubs provide free childcare for at least 30 minutes before the school day starts. In addition to the financial savings, these clubs can also free up parents’ time and potentially ease the morning rush. The NHS Low Income Scheme can help those with limited savings and income to get help with health costs. How much you save depends on your individual circumstances, but the scheme can cover prescription costs, dental costs, eyecare costs, healthcare travel costs, and certain wigs and fabric supports. The scheme assesses your income and necessary outgoings, as well as your savings and investments, to determine the level of help you receive.
