In 2025, Formula 1 didn’t just get its own dedicated movie — helmed by Brad Pitt no less — but also an official whisky. Ahead of this weekend’s British Grand Prix at Silverstone, a new campaign was unveiled to celebrate 10 years of a landmark partnership between Formula 1 and LVMH, with veteran actor Harrison Ford leading the reveal in a short film. Directed by Australian actor and filmmaker Joel Edgerton, the video features Ford amid the rustic charm of Scotland’s Andross Castle, where he endorses the whisky that he later labels as F1’s official pick.

While the brand in question is Glenmorangie, which boasts of dozens of unique whisky expressions, the bottle Ford is seen brandishing in both videos is the Glenmorangie Original 12 Year Old. This particular selection is a revamped “original” — formerly the Glenmorangie Original 10 Year Old — that only hit travel‑retail stores in India in 2024. This means that it’s more likely to be available in international airport duty‑free shops rather than regular liquor shops in metropolitan and Tier-II cities across the country.
Distillation process
The Glenmorangie Original 12 Year Old, which is now the brand’s standard offing in terms of its “original”, is distilled twice in copper pot stills — the tallest in Scotland with its necks rising to 16.86 feet — a key factor that helps it achieve its light and smooth character. The distilled spirit is then matured in oak casks, primarily first and second-fill American white oak bourbon casks, which impart flavours of vanilla, honey, and citrus to the spirit, which is then bottled for 12 years.

The single malt has a unique flavour profile that’s characterised by dominant traces of citrus zest, vanilla, and honey on the nose, and a delicate palate with flavours of lemon, vanilla custard, and a subtle floral note. The finish is lingering, with an aftertaste of almond, coconut, and a touch of maple syrup.
Alcohol by volume (ABV)
The official whisky of Formula 1 has an alcohol by volume of 40 per cent, which is standard for most single malt whiskies.

A 1 litre bottle of the Glenmorangie Original 12 Year Old costs Rs 7,090 at the Delhi Duty-Free, Rs 6,800 in Bengaluru’s Duty-Free, and Rs 7,450 in the Thiruvananthapuram Duty-Free.

The single malt, which was reimagined last year, received rave reviews by critics and consumers, even bagging the highly coveted gold medal at the prestigious World Whiskies Awards 2024.
