(Bernama pic)SUNGAI PETANI: Police have shot dead a man believed to be involved in a series of armed robberies, just hours after two other criminal suspects were killed in a shootout in Jitra.The 34-year-old man was killed during a similar shootout with police at Bandar Puteri Jaya at 7.50pm yesterday, acting director of the Bukit Aman criminal investigation department Fadil Marsus said.鈥淭his was a special operation led by Bukit Aman CID in collaboration with several state contingents and all branches of the Royal Malaysia Police,鈥 Fadil told reporters at the scene.鈥淭he man was believed to be part of a gang involved in a series of armed robberies across several states. Attempts were made to arrest him, but he resisted and a shootout ensued, leading to his death.鈥滺e said police believed the man, who had a record for more than 30 criminal offences, was a key member of a criminal group, comprising at least a dozen members.The gang had been responsible for a string of armed robberies and drug trafficking cases, with losses estimated at nearly RM6 million, dating back to 2022.鈥淥ur investigations indicate that this suspect was involved in three recent armed robberies in Melaka, Negeri Sembilan and Perak,鈥 he said.Yesterday morning, two other suspected criminals were killed by police in a shootout near the North-South Expressway (PLUS) exit near Bandar Darul Aman in Jitra.
