A day after The Hindu reported on the faculty shortage and lack of other infrastructure at government medical colleges across Telangana, the State government, on Saturday, issued a recruitment notification for 607 assistant professor posts under the Directorate of Medical Education (DME). The recruitment drive is being carried out through the Medical and Health Services Recruitment Board (MHSRB).
A senior official from the Health Department confirmed that, in addition to these 607 positions, approval has been granted for the recruitment of 714 more assistant professors. A separate notification for these posts will be released shortly.
The announcement comes in the wake of the recent National Medical Commission (NMC) show-cause notice that flagged faculty shortage in 26 out of the 34 government medical colleges across the State.
Online application
The online application process for these 607 posts will open on July 10, with the last date for submission set as July 17. Of the total positions, 379 posts are allocated to Multi Zone – I and 228 to Multi Zone – II.
As per official data, the current sanctioned cadre strength across the 34 government medical colleges stands at 3,696, out of which 2,375 posts have been filled, comprising 1,390 regular faculty and 985 on contract. This leaves 1,321 posts vacant.
鈥淭o bridge this gap, we are proceeding with the recruitment through this notification. The remaining 714 vacancies will be filled in a subsequent phase,鈥 the official said.
The announcement also comes a day after the MHSRB issued recruitment notifications for 48 Dental Assistant Surgeon posts and four Speech Pathologist positions.
