GOOD MORNING.

Here’s all the news you need to know as you start the day.

Chemotherapy

1. More people are waiting longer than recommended to start vital cancer treatments in Irish public hospitals.

Since 2023, all but one of the public hospitals offering treatments like chemotherapy and radiotherapy missed the HSE’s monthly target at least once, data obtained by The Journal Investigates through a Freedom of Information request revealed.

Mushroom murders

2. An Australian woman has been found guilty of murdering her husband’s parents and aunt by lacing their beef Wellington lunch with toxic mushrooms.

A12-person jury today found Erin Patterson guilty of triple murder. She was also found guilty of attempting to murder a fourth guest who survived.

3. National asking prices are up 7% over the year, according to the latest MyHome property report produced alongside Bank of Ireland.

The report, which looked at the second quarter of this year, found that some counties saw jumps of up to 19% in asking prices.

First Home Scheme

4. Meanwhile, Taoiseach Micheál Martin has dampened expectations that the First Home Scheme will be extended to second-hand homes in the short-term, stating that the focus now must be on new build delivery.

5. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will meet US President Donald Trump in Washington today amid indirect negotiations between Israel and Hamas aimed at brokering a ceasefire in Gaza.

6. The US will begin to send letters to countries it intends to place blanket tariffs on before President Donald Trump’s 9 July deal deadline.

7. The motor industry has been told to stop limiting consumer choice by the State’s competition watchdog.

Technical difficulties

8. Wimbledon officials have apologised to Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and Sonay Kartal after an embarrassing malfunction of the new electronic line-calling system on Centre Court.
