GOOD MORNING.

Here’s all the news you need to know as you start the day.

‘I feel like I belong’

1. A number of groups have written letters in support of a family in Dublin who are due to be deported as part of the government’s crackdown on asylum seekers.

The family of four, who say they have built a life here in Ireland, received the deportation order in March.

2. Iran’s foreign minister has said there are no plans to resume nuclear talks with the United States after the end of a 12-day war with Israel, and accused Washington of exaggerating the impact of US strikes.

3. Ireland fell to a four-goal defeat against the USA in Denver last night in the opening game of their international friendly double-header.

Weather forecast

4. The weather is set to remain mixed and changeable over the weekend, Met Éireann has predicted.

Mental health

5. The mental health Commission has said that it has identified “concerning attitudes towards compliance” in a number of HSE-run mental health centres which are persistently out of step with the rules of safe care.

6. Former Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has said that politicians “shouldn’t get involved in deciding which artists should be allowed to perform where” after criticising UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer earlier this week for suggesting Kneecap should not perform at Glastonbury.

Long Covid

7. The health minister has announced that the temporary paid leave scheme for public health workers suffering from long-Covid will be extended until the end of the year.

The scheme had been due to end this coming Monday, 30 June.

8. The government’s recent rental market changes will boost rent growth for the country’s biggest private landlord and give it a “big increase in returns”, according to analysts.
