Chennai, Jul 4 (KNN) The Tamil Nadu government has announced an ambitious plan to establish the state as a global seafood export hub.
The state targets USD 5 billion in exports through expanded value-added processing and infrastructure development. Tamil Nadu has India’s second longest coastline at 1,076 kilometres.
Industries Minister T R B Rajaa revealed the roadmap during the Tamil Nadu Seafood – Business Connect event in Chennai. State officials met with international importers and domestic seafood processors.
The meeting aimed to explore partnerships and boost export opportunities.
The initiative represents a strategic shift from raw seafood exports to processed, high-quality products.
Under Chief Minister Stalin’s leadership, the state plans comprehensive infrastructure development. This includes modern processing facilities, cold chain logistics systems, and export-grade packaging units across coastal districts.
The government has committed to providing strategic investments and infrastructure support. Officials stated that a detailed implementation roadmap will be developed.
The roadmap will guide the sector’s transformation to achieve the USD 5 billion export target.
