A viral clip showing a white SUV boldly driving against traffic on a busy Bengaluru road has ignited widespread anger online, underscoring growing concerns about rampant disregard for road rules.
The video, filmed near the Shell petrol pump in Seegehalli, captures the SUV moving along the right-most lane on the wrong side while other vehicles swerve to avoid it. It was shared on X (formerly Twitter) with the caption: 鈥淲rong side driving is a new norm in Bangalore. Even cars, buses, and trucks. This KIA driver was on the wrong side, that too on the extreme right lane.鈥
As the footage spread rapidly, Bengaluru residents voiced frustration over weak enforcement and lack of meaningful deterrents. Many users blamed lenient fines and ineffective policing for emboldening such behaviour.
鈥淩eporting these violations is such a struggle, and all it leads to is a 鈧500 fine. No wonder repeat offences are so common,鈥 one comment read.
Calls for a zero-tolerance policy were echoed by others demanding stricter penalties and proactive policing. Several users also highlighted how wrong-side driving frequently happens near petrol stations.
鈥淣ear BTM and Marenahalli petrol pumps, this happens daily,鈥 a resident shared.
Others lamented that violators often justify their actions, reflecting a culture that normalizes breaking rules.
鈥淚f this becomes the new standard, we鈥檙e reversing any progress we鈥檝e made as a society,鈥 one reflective comment warned.
