Surat Rains: A series of visuals emerging from Gujarat’s Surat revealed the trouble of lakhs of residents in the city. People were seen crossing roads and streets that were filled with water to waist level. According to the officials, the city received a whopping over 400 mm rainfall in 36 hours as of Tuesday, which created a flood-like situation in several parts of the city on Tuesday. The gravity of the situation can be gauged from the fact that people in some areas arranged for tractors to ferry them from one place to another – even boats were also seen operating on flooded roads. Surat city received 346 mm (or more than 13 inches) rainfall in 24 hours ending 6 am on Tuesday, while another 66 mm (nearly 2.6 inches) rainfall was registered in the subsequent 12 hours (ending 6 pm), Municipal Commissioner Shalini Agarwal said, reported PTI on Tuesday. Health Scare The rainwater mixed with sewage and garbage posed a threat to the public health. Many people were seen walking on the dirty water as there was no other way to reach their destination. Several low lying areas were filled due to the heavy rain. 7-Day Weather Forecast in Surat The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts more rain this week. Anticipating heavy rain today, the Met Office had issued an orange alert for Wednesday. From tomorrow onwards, the city will be under yellow alert June 29 as per the IMD prediction till now. Humidity levels will mirror the previous day: 90% in the morning, 80% by evening. June 28 Another day of thunderstorms with lightning is forecast. The weather department has retained the yellow alert. Minimum and maximum temperatures will be 28掳C and 31掳C, respectively. Humidity will stand at 90% (AM) and 80% (PM). June 29 A return to generally cloudy skies with heavy rain is on the cards. A yellow alert has been issued for heavy rainfall. Temperatures will vary between 27掳C and 31掳C, with humidity slightly increasing to 95% (AM) and 80% (PM). June 30 The weather is likely to ease slightly, with rain or thundershowers expected but no official warning in place. Temperatures will range from 27掳C to 28掳C, and humidity will be 95% (AM) and 85% (PM). July 1 Light rain or thundershowers may persist, but again, no warning has been issued. The day鈥檚 temperature is forecast between 26掳C and 30掳C, with humidity at 90% in the morning and 85% in the evening. The rain is expected to subside from Thursday, but it can still pick up as the monsoon is active in the state.
