Summer nights come alive at La Senyoreta in Villajoyosa

As the sun sets over Villajoyosa鈥檚 central beach, a once-forgotten estate is coming back to life with music, food, and culture. Hundreds of residents and visitors will flock to Estiu a la Senyoreta over the coming weekends to experience the town鈥檚 new summer offering鈥攁 vibrant evening market and cultural space at the historic finca La Senyoreta de l鈥橦ort.

Set beside the Censal park and just a short walk from the sea, the estate now hosts a buzzing atmosphere every weekend from Friday to Sunday, between 7pm and midnight. Visitors can stroll among artisan stalls, sample gourmet street food from a range of food trucks, and enjoy live performances under the stars.

The opening night was a festive celebration of local talent, featuring a concert by the Villajoyosa-based band Carne de Ca帽贸n and a live DJ set. Mayor Marcos Zaragoza and members of the local council attended the inauguration, marking the beginning of a cultural programme that will run throughout the summer.

鈥淟a Senyoreta de l鈥橦ort is an iconic and privileged space on our central beach that we鈥檝e wanted to bring back to life,鈥 said Zaragoza. 鈥淥ur goal is for residents and tourists to enjoy this unique spot with a varied and lively cultural offer throughout the summer. That鈥檚 why every weekend will feature musical performances and activities for children right by the sea.鈥

The initiative forms part of a wider push to animate Villajoyosa鈥檚 summer nights and enhance the town鈥檚 cultural and leisure landscape. The councillor for tourism, Rosa Llorca, who unveiled the full summer schedule this week, emphasised the family-friendly nature of the project.

鈥淲ith this new leisure proposal, we want both locals and tourists to enjoy summer evenings in a special setting,鈥 said Llorca. 鈥淭here will be activities for all ages, combining culture, entertainment and the natural charm of the beach.鈥

The summer programme at La Senyoreta will also include outdoor film screenings, children鈥檚 workshops, and performances designed to appeal to a wide audience鈥攆rom families with young children to older residents looking for relaxed entertainment.

With its tree-lined paths, sea breeze, and community spirit, Estiu a la Senyoreta is quickly establishing itself as a must-visit spot in Villajoyosa鈥檚 summer calendar. Entry is free and the events will continue every weekend until Saturday 31 August.

Villajoyosa is a coastal town in the province of Alicante, known for its colourful seafront houses, rich fishing heritage, and long sandy beaches. Historically, it served as a key maritime settlement for the ancient Iberians and later the Romans, with its name鈥攎eaning 鈥淛oyful Town鈥濃攔eflecting the welcoming character of its people.

Over the centuries, Villajoyosa developed a strong seafaring identity, becoming a hub for trade and shipbuilding. Today, it is also famous for its artisanal chocolate industry and its annual Moors and Christians festival, which commemorates the town鈥檚 defence against Berber pirate attacks in the 16th century.
