Student transport grant to be introduced if PPP wins September 1 elections – Jagdeo

Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo yesterday announced that a People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) government, if re-elected at the September 1 General and Regional Elections, will introduce a transportation grant for schoolchildren as part of a broader effort to ease the financial burden on families and improve access to education.

Jagdeo made the commitment during his weekly press briefing, while pointing to improvements in the education sector as a result of increased government investment over the past five years. “We’ve already made university education free, we’re paying for exams at the secondary level, and in the next term we plan to assist with transportation for children through a grant,” Jagdeo said. “We might not be able to cover all the costs, but we can give, maybe on an annual basis, a grant to the parents to offset transportation costs.”
