A travel enthusiast has shared the ultimate summer destination that’s just a short flight away . While many tourists opt for Italy for their annual getaway, one mum reckons this holiday hotspot in the UK might be a better pick. Taking to TikTok , the woman – who goes by The Travel Mum on social media – claimed to have found “a little bit of Italy, much closer to home.” “North Wales has some really beautiful places to visit. Portmeirion is a tourist village where you can explore, have a meal or even stay the night!” She then shared a video showing off Portmeirion’s many charms. The clip included shots of a sunny harbour, colourful buildings and even palm trees. Commenting on the clip, one person wrote: “This is wales???” Another added: “No way is this wales???” “It’s stunning there,” replied a third. Portmeirion is a resort, and you have to pay to access it. An adult ticket costs £20, with a concessions discount that brings the total price down to £17.50. Children between the ages of five and 15 can enter for £13 and kids under five go free. Family tickets and annual passes are also available – see the Portmeirion visitors ‘ website for details. Portmeirion boasts a selection of shops and restaurants, plus hotels in case you want to stay a little longer. You can even book your wedding there. Please note that dogs are not allowed in Portmeirion, but there is a nearby doggy daycare available. Guide dogs and assistant animals are allowed but need a valid ID. According to Rome2Rio, there are multiple holidaymakers can get to Portmeirion from Belfast. You can fly to Birmingham Airport before catching the train to Machynlleth, then a second train to Minffordd. Alternatively, catch the train to Dublin, where you can then get the ferry to Holyhead. The easiest way from Holyhead to Portmeirion is by taxi, but this can be expensive. From Holyhead you can also get a number of train and bus connections, but these are not direct.
