Squid Game 3 actor Lee Byung Hun’s upcoming K-drama
Lee Byung Hun is in talks to star in Koreans, the Korean remake of The Americans (2013-2018). For the unversed, The Americans was a critically acclaimed FX original series, running for six seasons, which won a Golden Globe as well as multiple Emmys. The spy thriller show is set during the Cold War and follows Elizabeth Jennings (Keri Russell) and Philip Jennings (Matthew Rhys), two Soviet spies posing as an American married couple in Washington, DC.
According to IZE and Soompi, Lee Byung Hun is currently in the final stages of accepting the offer to headline Koreans. In response to the casting report, the Hallyu star’s agency BH Entertainment commented, 鈥淣othing has been finalised yet. It鈥檚 true that he received the offer and is positively reviewing it.鈥
Notably, Koreans would mark Lee Byung Hun’s return to the spy thriller genre for the first time since starring in Iris (2009), for which the actor deservedly took home the coveted Baeksang Daesang (Grand Prize). If you already weren’t tempted enough by Koreans, the upcoming K-drama will be helmed by Ahn Gil Ho, the director behind The Glory, the Baeksang-winning K-drama starring Song Hye Kyo. Koreans will be mounted on a hefty production budget and are reportedly in talks with major streaming platforms. Though a broadcast partner is yet to be confirmed.
