Social Security Scotland delivers 拢289m in payments to North Lanarkshire residents in 12 months

Social Security Scotland delivered over 拢289 million in payments that helped people who live in North Lanarkshire in just 12 months. The payments, from April last year to March 2025, helped 75,815 people in North Lanarkshire with the cost of living, including support to heat their homes, pay for essential items and feed their families. New figures show over one million people in Scotland have received financial support worth more than 拢6 billion from payments delivered by Social Security Scotland since we were established in 2018. A client who receives Adult Disability Payment said: 鈥淭his support will give me much-needed breathing space to manage my mental health conditions, and I truly believe it will improve my quality of life.鈥 Money to help people heat their homes was paid to the highest number of people, with over 468,000 people receiving Winter Heating Payment and almost 40,000 children received Child Winter Heating Payment. More than 200,000 clients benefitted from Scottish Child Payment this financial year, which is playing a crucial role in tackling child poverty and supporting families who continue to face the impact of the cost of living crisis. Over the past two years, more families have been able to receive Scottish Child Payment as eligibility was increased to children under 16. Carer Support Payment, which became available in all local authority areas of Scotland in November 2024, was paid to over 77,000 unpaid carers 鈥 essential support for people who do so much for others. *Don’t miss the latest headlines from around Lanarkshire.
