SK Song Kheng Hai among 5 Sarawak schools to represent Malaysia in ASEAN My Cyber Hero 2025 finals

KUCHING, June 24: SK Song Kheng Hai has made history as one of 10 Malaysian teams selected to represent the country at the ASEAN Rookie My Cyber Hero 2025 international finals, which will be held at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre on July 1.

The school will compete in the Rookie category alongside 10 other teams from ASEAN countries after successfully emerging among the top 10 teams nationwide from a pool of 3,132 participants.

SK Song Kheng Hai鈥檚 team, known as the Firewall Guardians, comprises three Primary 5 pupils鈥擭ur Qiesya Yuzrina Mohammad Yuzairul, Ariana Aqisya Mohd Hafizzie and Carlina Kasih Grace鈥攁nd is mentored by teacher Lau Ung Hua.

According to the school鈥檚 Senior Administrative Assistant Liew Yik Chien, the national-level competition last month was highly competitive.

鈥淲e didn鈥檛 expect to qualify for the international stage, especially knowing how intense and challenging the national-level Rookie Cyber Hero Quiz was.

鈥淭o be listed among the top 10 and advance to the next level is a very proud achievement,鈥 she said recently.

Liew said the experience would not only bring recognition to the school, but also provide students with global exposure in areas such as computer science, information and communications technology (ICT), and 21st-century skills.

鈥淭he opportunity encourages pupils to get involved in digital literacy and cybersecurity while preparing them to meet global challenges,鈥 she said, adding that the team is doing its best to prepare to carry Sarawak鈥檚 name on the international stage.

In addition to SK Song Kheng Hai, three other primary schools from Sarawak also qualified for the finals鈥攖wo teams from SK St David Bumbok and one team from SJKC Chung Hua Krokop.

Meanwhile, SMK Tinggi Sarikei will represent Malaysia in the Star category after being ranked among the top 10 secondary school teams nationwide.

The My Cyber Hero 2025 competition, jointly organised by Microconcept Tech Sdn Bhd and the National Cyber Security Agency (NACSA), is an annual initiative to promote cyber safety awareness among students through creativity and technology.

Participants explore key digital security issues by designing impactful cyber hero characters that address challenges such as cyberbullying, online scams, and misinformation.

The programme also aims to strengthen digital literacy, critical thinking, and communication skills in line with national efforts to enhance cybersecurity education in schools. 鈥 DayakDaily
