Shubman Gill on Saturday (July 5) has equalled Virat Kohli鈥檚 elite record as captain. He became only the second Test captain in the world after Kohli to score three centuries in his first four innings as captain.
Kohli made his Test captaincy debut against Australia at Adelaide Oval on December 9, 2014, and scored 115 runs in the first innings, followed by 141 in the second.
He played his second Test as India captain against the Baggy Greens at Sydney Cricket Ground from January 6 to 10 in 2015 and scored 147 runs in the first innings.
On the other hand, Gill scored 147 runs for India in the first innings of his first Test as captain against England in Leeds on June 20-21, 2025. He scored 8 runs in the second innings of the Leeds Test.
In the first innings of his second Test as India captain, Gill scored 269 runs from 387 balls, and on Saturday (July 5), in his fourth innings as Test captain, he again scored a century.
