Shefali Jariwala passed away at the age of 42, and her demise shook not only her fans and family but the entire industry as well. Popular for her iconic dance number Kaanta Laga, Jariwala succumbed to sudden cardiac arrest. After the actress鈥檚 demise, Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru, who directed the iconic music video, paid their condolences to the actress and confirmed that there will be no sequel to the Kaanta Laga song without Shefali.
Taking to Instagram on Thursday, Radhika and Vinay, in a heartfelt post, penned, 鈥淵esterday was the prayer meeting. Saying the final goodbyes鈥 with our first photo session together鈥 Kaanta Laga 鈥 CD inlay card.鈥
They further stated that there will never be another Kaanta Laga, and that Shefali will always be the 鈥渙nly Kaanta Laga girl.鈥 In their emotional note, they added, 鈥淵ou always said you wanted to be the one and only 鈥楰aanta Laga鈥 girl. So we never made a sequel 鈥 and we never will. We鈥檙e retiring Kaanta Laga forever. It was always yours. It will always be yours鈥 Shefali鈥 RIP.鈥

Shefali shot to fame in the early 2000s with the remix of Kaanta Laga, which became a nationwide sensation overnight and etched her into pop culture history. Years later, in a 2020 interview with Rediff, Shefali had opened up about how the song completely transformed her life.
鈥淭here have been 17 years since Kaanta Laga, and I can鈥檛 believe it. It just seems like yesterday. Well, Kaanta Laga happened to me absolutely by chance. I was chilling outside my college, and the directors of the video, Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru, they spotted me there, and they offered me the song. What I just did for fun and a little bit of pocket money 鈥 it just completely changed my life. They were like fairy godmothers. They came and waved their magic wand and turned this ugly duckling into this beautiful swan. So yeah, it changed my life completely,鈥 she had said.
