Shefali Jariwala’s sudden death has sent a shock wave across the entertainment industry. The model-actress who was 42, reportedly died of a cardiac arrest on the night of June 27. She was reportedly rushed to the hospital by her husband, actor Parag Tyagi, but was declared dead on arrival. Known as the “Kaanta Laga girl”, it was a tag she carried all through her life ever since she made her screen debut with the highly popular music video in 2002. Though the video was deemed too bold for its times in terms of visuals and packaging, Shefali never had qualms of being part of it. Infact, how hailing from a simple middle-class family and landing the video was an achievement in itself. She was studying engineering when director duo Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru spotted her outside her college and offered her the music video that ultimately made her a household name, pushing her to change her career trajectory towards showbiz. Shefali wanted to see herself on TV! In an old video dated 2020 with The Times of India, Shefali revealed that her father was strictly against her doing the song that showed her in bold clothes, playing a girl who read adult magazines, wore revealing clothes and went to discotheques. “I was in college then and I come from a family of academicians, so my parents told me to focus on my studies. But I wanted to do it because I was getting paid for it. I earned ₹7,000 from that song, and I wanted to see myself on TV,” Shefali shared in the throwback interview. Doing Kaanta Laga against father’s permission “My father was completely against it. So first, I took my mom into confidence and then, we both convinced my father. And that song turned out to be such a hit that it was like a fairytale for me. It changed my life completely,” she added. She went on to do Nach Baliya 5 with her then boyfriend Parag Tyagi who she married later. She also made her digital debut with web series Baby Come Naa, apart from appearing in Bollywood film Mujhse Shaadi Karogi in 2004. She also participated in Bigg Boss 13 in 2019.
