The Natham police have arrested seven persons on Wednesday and produced them before a judicial magistrate court, which remanded them in judicial custody on charges of abetting a woman to end her life.
On Tuesday, a woman identified as Pachaiammal, 40, wife of Malaichamy of Mangalapatti near Natham attempted to end her life at the Dindigul Collectorate. Taken aback, a few police personnel on duty, tried to save the woman by pouring water on her and rushed her to the Government Hospital, from where, she was referred to Government Rajaji Hospital, Madurai.
Doctors said that she had suffered over 70 per cent burns and her condition was critical.
Meanwhile, Pachaiammal鈥檚 husband Malaichamy lodged a complaint with the Natham police.
Police inquiries revealed that Pachaiammal worked as an agent to a finance firm, which was given as PACL, Madurai. Between 2009 and 2017, she had reportedly collected money from gullible people promising higher returns.
However, the finance firm had allegedly shut its business a few years ago without paying to its investors. Under such circumstances, Pachaiammal was questioned by people, who had given their savings to her for investment.
According to the petitioner, Andichamy, 55, Durairaj, 63, Muthusamy, 50, Selvam, 58, Veerappan, 52, and Dayalan, 45, were named in the complaint. After inquiries, the police arrested them and produced them before the JM court, which remanded them in judicial custody.
