Scarlett Johansson is now Hollywood’s highest grossing lead actor. The Black Widow star, whose latest movie Jurassic World Rebirth debut with a great total at the box office on July 2, has pulled the 40-year-old icon into the category. It follows the latest figures released for the dinosarous franchise where she takes over the central part from Chris Pratt. Now, her lead project career gross stands at $14.8 billion, surpassing the totals of her fellow Marvel alums Robert Downey Jr. and Samuel L. Jackson. This feat is garnering a lot of chatter considering it’s been four years since she bid adieu to the MCU. Jurassic World Rebirth changed the game for Scarlett Johansson On July 6, The Wrap confirmed Johansson’s feat. In its report, it stated that her new record as the global box office’s highest grossing lead actor before inflation adjustment is all thanks to Jurassic World Rebirth. The movie’s first six days yielded $318 million global launch, second to only Chinese animated film Ne Zha 2 among all 2025 releases. The Numbers released the data for Johansson’s lifetime career box office gross in films where she plays a lead role or a lead ensemble role. Scarlett Johansson’s highest grossers as lead actor Considering most of the biggest grossers of all times come from the Marvel Studios, with Johansson portraying Natasha Romanov aka one of its original avengers Black Widow in eight films including her standalone project, she got the upper hand over other stars with inclusion of Jurassic World: Rebirth. Out of her gross $14.8 billion, more than $8.7 billion came from the four Avengers films, along with Captain America: Civil War, and her Marvel debut Iron Man 2. Johansson’s lead ensembles roles also include the two animated Sing films in 2016 and 2021 where she voiced for the porcupine character Ash. Robert Downey Jr., Samuel L. Jackson race behind Others names in the top five highest grossing lead actors on The Numbers list are Marvel actors Robert Downey Jr. who played Tony Stark/Iron Man, Samuel L. Jackson who plaed Nick Fury and Chris Pratt who played Peter Quill/Star-Lord. Tom Hanks is the only non-Marvel star in the list. Infact, Johansson took over the record top slot which was previously held by Jackson with $14.6 billion for his two Pixar movies The Incredibles (2004) and Incredibles 2 (2018). RDJ ranked with $14.2 billion. This included around $11.8 billion from his nine Marvel movies. With the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday where he returns to play Doctor Doom, the MCU founding father might have a strong chance to redeem himself. One possibile roadblock he might face is Avengers: Secret Wars jumping into the multiversal loopholes and timeline jumps, and if Marvel decides to bring Black Widow back from the dead marking Johansson’s return too. Though the possibility is bleak as the actress has so far expressed her assertion about returning to the MCU.
