Sawan is considered one of the auspicious months that is dedicated to the worship of lord Shiva. During this month, Kanwar Yatra also takes place. This is the yatra in which a throng of devotees participate out of sheer devotion. The ones who participate in this yatra are called Kanwariyas. The idea of this yatra is to cover various Shiva temples. Enthusiastic, Kanwariyas keep chanting the name of Shiva, or slogans like ‘Har Har Mahadev’ and ‘Bam Bam Bole’. Also, imagine this: Kanwariyas choose to go barefoot during the entire yatra. Another interesting ritual that they perform is that they collect holy Ganga water from sacred places like Haridwar and Gangotri and then perform Jalabhishek.
