KUCHING, June 26: Potential areas of collaboration between Sarawak and Australia in the field of energy and environmental sustainability were the focus of discussions during a meeting between Sarawak Deputy Minister for Energy and Environmental Sustainability Datuk Dr Hazland Abang Hipni and Australia鈥檚 Northern Territory Minister for Trade, Business, and Asian Relations Robyn Cahill.
A statement from Dr Hazland鈥檚 office said the courtesy call, held in Kuching, brought together leaders from both regions who acknowledged their governments鈥 shared commitment to clean energy transition and strengthening climate resilience.
Cahill expressed Australia鈥檚 strong interest in collaborating with Sarawak, particularly in the areas of technical expertise and knowledge exchange.
She highlighted Sarawak鈥檚 progressive approach as a valuable partner in shaping a sustainable energy future.
Dr Hazland welcomed the engagement and shared the State鈥檚 key initiatives under his ministry including the Sarawak Energy Transition Roadmap (SET-P), Sarawak Sustainability Blueprint 2030 (SSB), and the Sarawak Hydrogen Economy Roadmap (SHER).
The statement said the documents provide a comprehensive framework for Sarawak鈥檚 transition to a green economy, with a focus on renewable energy, carbon reduction, and clean technology development.
Both parties agreed that the exchange of technical knowledge, joint research, and collaborative programmes could accelerate mutual goals and benefit stakeholders in both regions.
The discussion also touched on opportunities for capacity building, industry academia partnerships, and pilot projects in areas such as hydrogen production, carbon capture, and nature-based solutions.
The courtesy call concluded with a shared commitment to identify actionable pathways for partnership and to maintain regular engagement through bilateral platforms and technical dialogues.
