CHIEF Wozhele of Sanyati has commended the ongoing exhumation of Zipra liberation war fighters buried in mass graves along the banks of Munyati River, describing it as a long overdue step toward national healing and honouring the country鈥檚 war heroes.
The remains, which have lain in shallow, unmarked graves behind the Sanyati Rest Camp since the 1970s liberation war, are being carefully unearthed in a process supervised by local authorities, war veterans and traditional leaders.
Speaking during a site visit on Tuesday, Chief Wozhele said the exhumation and forthcoming reburial of the cadres will bring long-awaited closure to families and the community at large.
鈥淭his is not just about digging up bones,鈥 said Chief Wozhele.
鈥淚t鈥檚 about restoring dignity to those who gave their lives for Zimbabwe鈥檚 freedom. These were brave sons and daughters of the soil. They deserve a proper resting place and national recognition.鈥
