Rod Stewart opens up about 'change' in wife Penny Lancaster as he admits 'we've all noticed'

Sir Rod Stewart has opened up about the noticeable change in his wife Penny Lancaster since she swapped her high-fashion lifestyle to take on duties as a special police constable. Lancaster, who once graced magazine covers as a model, has been on the frontline for major events such as Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral and King Charles III’s Coronation day. During a conversation with The Times, the 80-year-old singer, who took to the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury this year, expressed his thoughts on Penny’s new career path. He said: “I have noticed she’s got more bossy since she’s been a copper. The kids have noticed, we’ve all noticed. She seems to think she knows everything now.” Reflecting on her family’s initial response to her joining the police force, Lancaster also told The Times last year how their two teenage sons and Rod were taken aback, reports Edinburgh Live . “When I first told them the idea of joining, they thought I was absolutely mad,” she said, adding that her sons initially didn’t find it ‘cool’. ” But now they’re so proud, it’s a complete turnaround,” she added. Penny believes that hearing her policing tales and witnessing the change in her demeanour changed their perspective. She shared: “To begin with they were like, ‘Mum, you’ve become stricter. I don’t like this’. “And even Rod would say, ‘You’ve changed. You’re more forceful, you’re more this, you’re more that’.” Despite initial hesitations, Penny shared that Rod eventually became one of her biggest supporters in her policing role. “He’s seen the dedication I have with the force and what it gives me back, as well as what I can give them,” she disclosed on ITV’s Loose Women. Penny faced a setback in her role last year when an injury moved her away from active duties. She suffered a torn meniscus in her right knee during a trip abroad. More recently, the 54-year-old issued an update about her career change. Last month, Penny discussed her duties on the We’re Not Getting Any Younger podcast, which included making arrests. She said: “I’ve been doing it for four years now so he’s [Rod] kind of got used to it and he’s met a lot of my colleagues and he respects the amount of training I’ve done. “I have [arrested people], two people, for drink driving and drug driving. Every accident you have to test for drink and drugs. It is an adrenaline rush, I wasn’t arresting on live TV.”
