River cleaning work at a cost of ₹25 lakh launched in Salem

Tourism Minister R. Rajendran inaugurated the cleaning works on the banks of Thirumanimutharu river and also participated in the inauguration of an urban primary health centre and seven urban wellness centres on Thursday.

Speaking to reporters, Minister Rajendran said that the work of clearing the soil and plants that have accumulated on both banks of the river is scheduled to be completed within a month. The work from Anaimedu to Shevapet will be carried out at a cost of ₹25 lakh for a distance of 25 km, the Minister added.

Later, the Minister participated in a function in which Chief Minister M.K. Stalin inaugurated a primary health centre at Thathampatti and seven urban wellness health centres, constructed at a cost of ₹2.95 crore, through video conferencing.

Speaking at the function, he said the Chief Minister has been announcing and implementing various schemes for the benefit of all sections of the people. In particular, he has been giving importance to the Health Department and implementing various special schemes.

The Thathampatti PHC will benefit over 35,000 people residing in Gandhi Nagar, Valluvar Colony, Allikuttai, and Veeranam. With the opening of the new PHC, the number of PHCs in Salem Corporation limits has increased to 17. Likewise, with the opening of seven more urban wellness centres, the number has increased to 32 from the present 25 centres, the Minister added.

District Collector R. Brindha Devi, Mayor A. Ramachandran, Salem MP T.M. Selvaganapathi, Corporation Commissioner M. Elangovan and officials from various departments participated in the functions.
