ABUJA 鈥 The House of Represen-tatives has inaugurated an ad-hoc committee to investigate the Federal Government鈥檚 implementation strategy for the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) policy na-tionwide.
At the inauguration cere-mony held in Abuja on Friday, Chairman of the committee, Hon. Ahmadu Jaha (APC-Bor-no), said the panel has been tasked with assessing the effec-tiveness, safety, and long-term sustainability of the CNG pro-gramme in Nigeria.
He emphasised the impor-tance of ensuring equity in the rollout of CNG conversion centres, stressing that facili-ties must be fairly distributed across all six geo-political zones.
鈥淭he committee is commit-ted to doing everything within its powers to ensure a balanced and just spread of CNG centres across the country,鈥 Jaha stated.
He further assured that the panel will collaborate with rel-evant ministries, regulatory agencies, oil and gas compa-nies, and other stakeholders to align the CNG policy with international standards and best practices.
He said, 鈥淲e will critically examine the existing legal and regulatory frameworks guiding the implementation of the CNG initiative, and propose neces-sary legislative interventions to the House for consideration.鈥
Jaha also encouraged com-mittee members to remain guided by the terms of refer-ence outlined in the House votes and proceedings to shape a focused and effective work plan.
It would be recalled that in May 2025, the House adopted a motion titled 鈥淐all to Estab-lish More Compressed Natu-ral Gas Conversion Centres across Nigeria,鈥 urging the Federal Government to ensure inclusive and equitable access to CNG infrastructure for all Nigerians.
The 11-member investiga-tive panel was formally inau-gurated by the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Ab-bas, on Thursday.
