Reem Shaikh Says Films And OTT Makers Don’t Want TV Faces: ‘I Tried Very Hard’

Reem Shaikh is currently winning hearts again with her return on Laughter Chefs season 2. After working hard in television for many years, Reem recently started acting in web series, where her performances have been praised. Now, she dreams of acting in Bollywood, but says moving from TV to web shows and then to films is not easy. According to her, many filmmakers don’t want actors from the small screen in web series or movies. She understands this challenge and knows it takes time, and is ready to work hard for it.
Speaking with ETimes, the actress said, “Honestly, that was my thought that now that I have done TV, I want to try in films. I also tried a lot, I tried very hard to take that jump from TV to web and then web to films, I have tried that but it’s not easy. It’s become very difficult because in the web space, the answer you get is that they don’t want TV faces, and in films, the answer is the same. Okay, fine, I get that. I know there’s a phase where you have to spend like three or four years.”
“Take a break, sure, then try your hand at movies or TV. But to take a break of three or four years, you need money to sustain yourself, who’s going to run the household? It’s a huge, harsh decision, not something everyone can make. And honestly, it’s not for everyone. I didn’t want to make that decision back then when I thought my career was at its peak. You know, like 17, 18, 19, 22, those are the years where you work hard, make money so that by 30 you can settle down and live comfortably. So, taking a break at that time when I was getting lots of offers just didn’t feel right to me. So, I didn’t take it,” Reem Shaikh explained.
The Raisinghani VS Raisinghani star further shared that moving from TV to web series and then to films is a big step, and not an easy decision. She feels that people who can take a break from work for a few years should do it, even if it’s a bit risky, because it might help in the long run. But for her, taking such a break didn’t feel right. She is at a stage where she wants to earn and support her family.
She mentioned that she can’t just stop working, as her income helps take care of her family and their lifestyle. She also adds that when she isn’t working, she feels restless and even others around her notice it. Staying busy keeps her in a better mood and helps her stay focused. For her, the happiness of buying something for her mother with her own money is something special, and she wants to keep doing that.
