Radda Deepens Renewable Energy Partnership To Ease Hardship, Drive Development

KATSINA: Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has reaffirmed his administration鈥檚 commitment to renewable energy solutions as a pathway to economic prosperity and job creation, following a strategic partnership review with Genesis Energy Group.

The Governor hosted the Genesis Energy Chairman, Mr. Akinwole Omoboriowo II, and his team at the Government House, Katsina to evaluate the state鈥檚 solar power installations and chart the next phase of their collaboration.

During the visit, the Genesis Energy pointed out major achievements on the partnership, noting that 1MW Solar MiniGrid now powers Government House with 12 hours daily electricity, 300KW Solar PV system provides reliable power to General Hospital, Katsina, significant reduction in diesel dependency and operational costs and enhanced healthcare delivery through consistent power supply

Governor Radda praised Genesis Energy鈥檚 execution of the initial projects, noting their transformative impact on government operations and healthcare services.

鈥淚 sincerely thank Genesis Energy for their excellent work. The General Hospital now has reliable power crucial for healthcare delivery, while Government House enjoys 12 hours of consistent electricity daily,鈥 the Governor said.

Governor Radda emphasized that the renewable energy drive goes beyond infrastructure development, 鈥淓nergy security is fundamental to easing the hardships faced by our people. Reliable power unlocks opportunities for local businesses, healthcare facilities, and educational institutions, fostering socioeconomic development.鈥

The Governor highlighted the environmental benefits, stating that it has reduced diesel use aligns with Nigeria鈥檚 Energy Transition Plan and the national goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2060.

鈥淥ur goal is clear鈥攕ustainable energy must be a catalyst for prosperity and job creation in Katsina State. This partnership ensures our energy landscape becomes greener, more resilient, and more inclusive,鈥 Governor Radda concluded.

Genesis Energy Chairman Omoboriowo revealed ambitious expansion plans under their Memorandum of Understanding with the state.

鈥淲e are now focused on deploying Mini Grids at the Green Economic Zone along Jibia Road and Lambar Rimi, home to the state鈥檚 wind farm, as well as other strategic locations,鈥 he announced.

Omoboriowo said the partnership aims to drive industrial activities, improve power access across the state, and support objectives outlined in the Electricity Act 2024.

The event was attended by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Power and Energy, Dr. Hafiz Ahmed; Special Adviser on Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Abba Jaye; General Manager, Rural Electrification Board, Engr. Abdullahi Abubakar Matazu amongst others.
